A list manager will promote, market, and rent (for one time use only) a company's customer list to non competing marketers.
Most marketers have a database or several databases. These databases might be a list of buyers, inquirers and even prospects and were gathered through various marketing efforts such as: Mail, telemarketing, Email, retail, online, TV or radio etc. These databases can be moneterized as an additional profit center for the company by offering them for rental or exchange. List Managers are responsible for marketing, promoting and selling those lists to a network of list brokers and non competing marketers while at the same time allowing you to focus on your primary business.
It is important to note that first and foremost, your list belongs to you and thus, you are always in full control of who can rent your list and what they can send to your customers.
Maintaining your list for rental purposes:
A list must be kept current, update periodically (monthly, quarterly and the like) and contain correct information. A marketable list should be maintained by a list fulfillment company (computer house) at which all the names on the list will be verified, corrected, updated and organized. The list fulfillment company is also used to run and ship any order placed for your list to the specifications of the end user. You can contract your own list fulfillment company or you may use Contact Marketing's list fulfillment services.
How do we protect your list from unauthorized use?
We rent your list to mailers and mail pieces that you approve for clearance and for one time use only. To ensure the process use of this list, we seed the list with unique decoy names and addresses that allow us to track the mailing and determine whether it was used properly. In certain cases we will contract with a company that seeds the list and inserts decoys throughout the country. We will advise you to insert your own seeds as well for extra protection and tracking of usage.
Consulting: No one knows your list better than you, which is why we first consult with you and familiarize ourselves with your company, customer list and the various marketing tools that you used to build it.
Plan: We then identify the markets and mailers that can benefit from your list and create a plan to reach those markets. We will also conduct research on lists that are similar to yours and obtain, to the best of our ability, information about the markets and companies that are using those lists.
Data cards: We then prepare a Data card which is a detailed description of your list its specifications and process. We distribute our data cards to all brokers and applicable mailers through fax or email. We also list the data cards with all the mostly used list databases online like MIN, SRDS and Nextmark and in trade publications that feature new lists such as Direct, Target, CM, Catalog Age, Dm News and more. These listings will be accompanied by press releases and depending on the nature and size of the list; we will consider paid advertising as well. We will also pinpoint the particular brokers and mailers who are or work with the target market that we set and contact them directly and individually. As mentioned, you are the list owner and in control of the usage of your list. Therefore, every order must be cleared by you in advance. An actual sample of the mail piece can be requested and submitted to you for approval.
Upon your approval of, we will accept and process the order. An order form and a list rental agreement, which states the condition of usage, must be submitted from the broker/mailer. We also verify the credit eligibility of all clients before accepting a rental order and discuss.
Contact Marketing will handle all billings and collections for you. Our accounting department will invoice brokers/mailers the rental. Upon receipt of payment, we will deduct the management fee and running charges (where applicable) and promptly remit monthly payment along with a usage report to you.
